Flood Victims in Wardak Call for Assistance

The residents of Wardak, who have been affected by the recent floods, called on the Islamic Emirate and aid organizations to provide them with assistance.

The residents said that the floods have destroyed their shelters and lands.

On Saturday night, floods hit Jalriz, Chak, Narkh and Jaghato districts in the province.

“We call on the international community and the interim government to provide urgent assistance with these people” said Mohibullah, a resident of Wardak.

“Their condition is severe. There is no street, no bridge, no land, no livestock, and everything has been damaged,” said a flood affected person in Wardak.

Meanwhile, provincial officials in a joint conference with the representatives of humanitarian NGOs, urged the domestic and international organizations to provide essential assistance to the vulnerable people.

“I hope you help in the reconstruction of the houses, providing food. Those organizations who mentioned giving cash-aid, I thank them,” said Bakhtiar Maaz, governor of Wardak province.

However, officials of some aid organizations said that assistance has been provided to people affected by flooding in the province.

“The families which are being surveyed will receive food assistance and tents,” said Mohammad Omar Hashimi, a UN official for the central zone.

Earlier, the provincial department of Disaster Management told TOLOnews that at least 30 people have been killed and 25 others injured by the floods.
