Recent floods have claimed the lives of 90 people across the country.
Following the onset of floods in recent weeks in 15 provinces, at least 90 people have died, and 54 others have been injured.
Local officials stated that in addition to the loss of lives, thousands of hectares of agricultural land, homes, livestock, water channels, and retaining walls have also been destroyed.
The provinces of Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Helmand, Badghis, Herat, Ghor, Paktia, Ghazni, Samangan, Nangarhar, Farah, Laghman, Nimroz, and Sar-e- Pol have witnessed fatalities and financial losses.
According to these officials, 10,789 livestock, 2,134 homes, 22,910 acres of agricultural land, 27 public facilities, 2,597 water canals and embankments, and several meters of retaining walls have been destroyed.
Mohammad Qasim Mohammad, the head of the department of Disaster Management in Nimroz, told TOLOnews: “About 50 livestock have perished, around 60 homes have been destroyed, and we have two martyrs.”
Abdullah Hotak, the spokesperson for the governor of Samangan, regarding the floods in this province, said: “The floods in the district of Khulm have destroyed 120 acres of agricultural land and 150 meters of embankments.”
Meanwhile, Nazir Shakib, the spokesman of the 205th Al-Badr Army Corps, stated that the air forces rescued hundreds of people who were trapped in the floods in some southern areas of the country.
“One of our compatriots who was trapped in water was rescued by airplane, and in 7 villages where there was flowing water, the floodwaters have been stopped,” he said.
Mohammad Shakeel, one of the victims in Paktia, said: “We are not capable, and we ask the government to cooperate with us.”
Abdul Ghafoor, a victim in Kandahar, told a TOLOnews reporter: “Our walls that were destroyed by the flood need to be rebuilt. So far, no one has helped us.”
However, local officials noted that due to recent rains and floods, most of the country's water reservoirs are also full, giving farmers hope for a fruitful year ahead.
