Iran FM in Phone Call with Muttaqi Discussed Helmand Water Rights

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran's foreign minister, in a conversation with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister, discussed Iran's water rights from the Helmand River and said the recent visit of a Iranian technical delegation from Afghanistan, which occurred in accordance with the 1351 agreement, will bring more transparency to the issue, the Iranian foreign ministry said.

Iran's foreign ministry said on social media that Tehran stressed the need for cooperation of all parties for the stability and prosperity of people inside Afghanistan.

According to Iran's foreign ministry, Amir Khan Muttaqi said the relation between the two countries is based on "brotherhood" and he invited Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to visit Kabul.

Meanwhile, Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal said on social media that Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister, met with a 7-member delegation from the Iranian Parliament led by Javad Karimi Ghodoosi, a member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, in Kabul.

According to the deputy spokesman of the foreign ministry, Muttaqi claimed in the meeting the security forces of the Islamic Emirate have destroyed the Daesh group in Afghanistan and now there is complete security in the country.

“In this meeting, the discussion was held on trafficking, border management, and trade nation,” he said.

This comes as political analysts said that the negotiations between Afghanistan and Iran had a positive impact on the improvement of relations between the two neighboring countries.

“I hope the neighboring countries, particularly Iran reach a point where a politically and economically stable Afghanistan is in their interest and so they will make relations based on mutual interest,” said Zalmai Afghanyar, a political analyst.

Since the Islamic Emirate came to power, many Iranian officials including the President Ebrahim Raisi, made various statements about the country’s water rights from Helmand river.
