The residents of Kham Aab district of Jawzjan province expressed their concerns over the damages sustained as their residences are being damaged by water from the Amu River.
They said that the Amur Darya [Amu River] is also destroying agricultural lands annually at its peak season.
“It has been since the past 20-years that the construction on the side of Amu has been continuing and millions of dollars have been spent but it has not been very satisfactory,” said Safar Qol, a resident of Kham Aab.
“We call on the Islamic Emirate to pay serious attention regarding the construction of Amu river’s banks,” said Ghulam Sakhi, a resident of Kham Aab.
However, the provincial governor, Gul Haidar Shafaq, said that the issue has been shared with the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW).
“We are following this issue very seriously. We have shared the problems of the people of Qarqeen and Khamaab with the officials,” he said.
Amur Darya causes damage to the surrounding area every year, in which the residents suffer massive financial losses.
