Moscow, Kabul Developing Relations: Russia FM

The Islamic Emirate said that Russia plays a constructive role in the region especially in ensuring stability in Afghanistan.

In response to l remarks of the Head of the Second Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate said that the Afghan government is making efforts to strengthen diplomatic and business relations with Russia.
 
“We want to strengthen our relations with Russia in two areas, our diplomatic relations have become strong and want to have strong relations in trade and economic areas,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate.

The TASS News Agency quoted the Head of the Second Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that the Islamic Emirate is a viable negotiating partner, and that Russia is building relations with the Taliban based on the interests of Russia. 

“Russia is developing relations with Kabul and the interim government. We believe that the Taliban is capable of coming to agreements. We believe that they are in full control of the situation in the country,” TASS quoted Timofey Boikov, Head of the Second Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“As a neighbor of Afghanistan and superpower in the world, Russia wants to strengthen its relations not only with Afghanistan but with the region to secure its political and economic interests,” said Najiburahman Shamal, a political analyst.

In the meantime, political analysts said that the betterment of bilateral relations between Russia and the Islamic Emirate will benefit both.
 
“The caretaker government should make great use of the opportunity, the more political, economic and social relations with countries, the better for the Islamic Emirate,” said Samiullah Poya, international relations expert.
 
Earlier, Russian president’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov discussed bilateral political and business relations in his meetings with the officials of Afghanistan’s caretaker government in Kabul.

Kabulov also discussed the participation of the Islamic Emirate’s representatives in regional and international mechanisms.
