Senior Islamic Emirate Delegation Visits Deportees at Torkham

A delegation of the Islamic Emirate comprised of acting ministers of Refugees and Repatriation, and Borders and Tribal Affairs, as well as the deputy minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, visited Nangarhar to assess the situation of the Afghan refugees being deported from Pakistan.

The acting minister of Tribal Affairs, Noorullah Noori, also visited the Durand Line and met with the residents and passengers.

“We have visited the area. The officials will address their problems within their capacities, particularly the problems of refugees,” he said.

The officials said that efforts are underway by the high commission for refugees’ affairs to construct shelters for the deportees.

“We have met with the refugees who return to the country, and they are facing problems. We promised them that after the winter, practical work on the permanent camps will begin,” said Hamdullah Fitrat, head of the press and public affairs of the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs.

“They visited Torkham and assessed the current situation of the Afghan refugees and also assessed the checkpoints, trade and transit as well as the checkpoints which are created to prevent the smuggling,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, Islamic Emirate spokesman.

Based on the statistics of the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, within the last year, around 1 million Afghan refugees arrived in Afghanistan from Pakistan, Iran and Turkey.
