Chaman Sit-In Reaches 4th Month, Protestors Warn Islamabad of Consequences

People in Chaman continue a sit-in to protest the decision of Pakistan to require passports to pass through the crossing area between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai, head of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, in his meeting with the protestors asked the Pakistani  government to revoke its decision.

“Do not oblige us make you have passports to come to Chaman,” Achakzai said.

It has been four months since the protestors have started the sit-in in Chaman and have blocked roads in reaction to the decision of Islamabad.

Protestors accused Pakistan’s government of weakening the economy of people in Chaman and of creating disunity.

“We are all businesspeople. Do not use force against us, otherwise we will open the door [Chaman crossing] to Attak [an area in Pashtunkhwa],” said Pahlawan, a protestor.

According to the members of the protesting movement in Chaman, Pakistani authorities have pledged to resolve problems in their meetings with the protestors.
