The Ministry of Education spokesperson on Saturday told TOLOnews that approximately 80% of students in the country's schools have received newly printed books.
Mansoor Ahmad Hamza, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, said that the ministry has printed and provided 38 million copies of textbooks to students.
According to Hamza, the Ministry of Education is striving to address the issue of book shortages in remote areas of the country.
"As a result of the Ministry of Education's efforts in Afghanistan, around 80% of students have received their books. However, we are still working to ensure that students receive books and educational materials as soon as possible,” Hamza told TOLOnews.
Meanwhile, some students complained about the shortage of textbooks in schools.
"Every year, new books should be distributed to us, and every student should be given all their books because students cannot afford to buy books,” Osman, a student, told TOLOnews.
"The books we get from the market are poorly printed. Students in this regard are facing difficulties,” said Qadirullah, another student.
Some teachers also said that the Ministry of Education should address the issue of textbook shortages in the country. They said having books is important for improving the education process.
"Books are depleted quickly, so the Ministry of Education needs to print a large number of books to prevent students from facing book shortages,” Nasratullah Yousufi, a teacher told TOLOnews.
The Ministry of Education has previously stated that since the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate, it has printed 38 million copies of textbooks and has initiated a distribution process.
