Ministry Calls for 'Accuracy and Impartiality' From UN

Following the United Nations Secretary-General's recent report on the situation in Afghanistan and Roza Otunbayeva's speech at the Security Council meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the UN to adhere to "accuracy and impartiality" in its reporting and conduct.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release criticized the report for employing unscientific methods and for addressing issues outside its mandate, such as internal disputes. These issues have drawn strong protests from the Islamic Emirate.

"Some of the criticisms or acknowledgments they have made are based on incorrect information about Afghanistan, or there has been a deliberate attempt to criticize Afghanistan,” said Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate.

Additionally, the press release commended the sections of the report that dealt with security, the handling of deported migrants, the adverse impacts of banking and economic sanctions on the Afghan populace, the continuation of United Nations humanitarian aid.

Amidst this, political analysts expressed diverse views on the United Nations' reports concerning Afghanistan.

"The United Nations' confrontation with the policies of the United States and its allies has led to disappointment among the people and poses challenges to the system. This situation undermines the confidence necessary for investors to engage in the country, portraying Afghanistan's situation as unfavorable, which amounts to an economic setback for us,” said Sayed Qaribullah Sadat, a political analyst.

This statement comes in the wake of Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, releasing a quarterly report on Afghanistan four days ago, highlighting internal disputes among the interim government officials and an increase in security incidents.

According to the report, the number of security incidents in Afghanistan from November 1, 2023, to January 10, 2024, saw a thirty-eight percent increase compared to the same timeframe in 2022 and 2023.
