The Ministry of State for Natural Disaster Management announced that in the past twenty-three days (the first day of Hoot in the solar calendar) at least 60 people have died due to snowfall, rain, and cold weather in the country.
Janan Saiq, the ministry’s spokesman, said that 34 people were injured, and more than 177,000 livestock were lost, and over 1,600 houses were destroyed during this period.
"From the first to the twenty-third of Hoot, our ministry, in collaboration with international organizations, has provided food, non-food, and cash assistance to 22,415 families across the country, and the process of assisting needy families is still ongoing,” Saiq said.
The victims of natural disasters asked the Islamic Emirate to provide them with the necessary assistance.
"In the area we live in, a large number of livestock have died, and several shepherds have been buried under the snow,” said Mohammad Halim, a resident of Badakhshan.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works stated that due to snowfall and severe storms, the Salang Pass and several routes in the provinces of Bamiyan, Ghor, Sar-e Pol, Nuristan, and Farah have been blocked.
Ashraf Haqshenas, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, said: "The Salang highway has been closed to traffic from 8:30 last night due to snowfall, storms, and limited visibility."
The Meteorology Department of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation issued a warning of the possibility of snow, rain, and flooding on Wednesday and Thursday of this week in 15 provinces of the country.
