US Senator Raises Alarm Over Health of Ryan Corbett in Afghanistan

A Republican US Senator, Mitch  McConnell, once again expressed concern over what he described as the poor health condition of Ryan Corbett, an American citizen imprisoned in Afghanistan.

Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader of the United States Senate, stated that two years after Ryan Corbett’s imprisonment, hopes for his return home have faded.

According to the American senator, the "Taliban" have been keeping Ryan Corbett away from sunlight in a cell for 607 days.

“Earlier this afternoon, I had a chance to meet with Ryan’s wife, Anna, their three teenage children, and his parents Drue and Evelyn from Louisville. Now more than ever, they fear for Ryan’s life,” he said.

Previously, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate stated that foreign citizens had been arrested for legal violations in the country.

"I think there are two Americans, and the reasons for their visit are not clear yet; but whatever the reasons, anyone coming to Afghanistan is obliged to observe the laws of Afghanistan. Anyone who gets an Afghan visa means they agree to follow our laws," he said.

Some experts consider the detention of American citizens a significant factor in the interaction between the US and the Islamic Emirate, and emphasized the need to resolve these issues through dialogue.

"There should be discussions about the prisoners. The Afghan government also has the right to exchange those who are detained in America. This is a principle in the world and should be leveraged through this interaction,” said Moeen Gul Samkani, a political analyst.

Previously, the spokesperson for the United States Department of State said in a press conference that the detention of American citizens in Afghanistan is a significant obstacle to positive engagement between Kabul and the world.
