Kabul Calls for Release of Last Afghan From Guantanamo Bay

The Islamic Emirate’s spokesman asked the US to release Abdul Rahim, the last Afghan prisoner in Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp.

According to Abdul Rahim's family members, he has been in Guantanamo Bay for more than seventeen years.

"We have discussed the Guantanamo prison with the Americans several times. There is an Afghan prisoner who has to be released. He was arrested without any crime and the other thing is that he has been there for a long time and has suffered cruelty. He should be released as soon as possible. Now, once again, we ask the Americans to release him as soon as possible. The Islamic Emirate will also try in this regard through legal means,” Mujahid told TOLOnews.

Abdul Rahim's mother, who is now living in Kabul, said that her son is innocent and no crime has been proven against him.

“I ask the rulers of America to release my son. For what sin did they arrestvhim, what was his sin?” said Safora Bibi, Abdul Rahim's mother.

"The address of our house was given to them by the ICRC. They came and informed us that your father is alive and imprisoned in Guantanamo,” said Mohammad Ismail, Abdul Rahim's son.

The 18-year-old son of Abdul Rahim, Mohammad Daud, said that he was deprived of his father's arms at the age of two months.

His family members said that Abdul Rahim was arrested in 2007 in the city of Lahore, Pakistan, and they have not heard from him after four years.

They asked the US to release Abdul Rahim and let him return to Afghanistan.

"I was two months old in my mother's arms. I didn't see him at all. He was arrested and after that I grew up. At that time, I needed a father's love. I used to ask my mother about when my father would be released,” Mohammad Daud told TOLOnews.

The family of Abdul Rahim added that he was the family's primary provider and sold honey in Lahore, Pakistan. He is the father of two daughters and four sons.
