The family of Nowroz Ali Rajabi, 1TV’s cameraman who was killed in Monday’s bombing in Kabul, has lashed out at government for failing to protect the people, especially journalists.

Rajabi’s mother said her husband died when Rajabi was only five years old and that she raised her son with great difficulty, in the hope of him one day being able to provide for her.

According to Rajabi’s mother, she worked in private houses in order to earn a living.

The grieving mother said she has arranged a prayer service for her son but that she is waiting for her daughter to arrive in Kabul. She said her daughter lives in Herat.

“I accepted lots of hardships and raised my son and helped him to become (a cameraman). What have I got now?” Rajabi’s mother said.

Rajabi graduated from the film-making department at the faculty of art at Kabul University in 2014. He has worked for 1TV as a cameraman for over a year.

Rajabi’s wife, who is pregnant, said: “He was happy that our baby will be born soon.”

Rajabi not only supported his family but also his uncle’s family and had to cover both his mother and aunt’s medical bills as both suffer from ailments.

One of his relatives said they are very concerned about their future as they now have no one to buy them food.

“What kind of government is this? We expect nothing from this government,” Ali, Rajabi’s uncle said.

“People are suffering and being killed every day. No one is taking care of the people. Rajabi’s mother suffered a lot, all the people know this,” Zahra, a relative of Rajabi said.

Rajabi was killed on Monday and leaves behind a worried family who are concerned about their future.
