MoD Concerned Over Military Hardware Seized By Taliban

Following reports about the seizing of military equipment, including armored vehicles, by the Taliban, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said on Sunday that it is a matter of concern but they have plans to eliminate or recover the equipment from the insurgents.

"We are not rejecting this. Military equipment – including Humvees – was seized by Taliban when some security check posts were overrun by the militants. It is a concerning issue," said MoD spokesman Dawlat Waziri.

He added: "The equipment must be destroyed or recovered. We have plans in this respect."

Meanwhile, former Kunduz governor Hamdullah Danishi said nearly 45 armored vehicles are in the Taliban's possession in the province.

"Taliban [militants] have seized a lot of military equipment from security forces;‎ they have even ‎taken 45 Humvees in Kunduz and have fled from the province," Danishi said.

"Taliban has equipment that Americans have provided to the Afghan security forces – including tanks and Rangers," said Mohammad Hashim Alokozay, a ‎member of Meshrano Jirga (Upper House of Parliament).

According to reports, clashes are ongoing between security forces and Taliban fighters in Kunduz, Helmand, Faryab and Farah provinces.
