Kabul-Kandahar Highway Closed After Taliban Attack

A number of motorists have said that Taliban insurgents attacked the Kabul-Kandahar highway from three directions early Wednesday morning - resulting in the closure of the main artery.

Motorists said insurgents attacked the highway at about 6am local time in the Sorpal, Sherazi and Shater areas in Wardak province.

Wardak provincial council members confirmed the early morning attack but said insurgents also converged on other districts including Daimurdad and on the highway itself.

According to them clashes with security forces are ongoing.

The provincial council members said that the insurgents also closed the Kabul-Bamiyan highway.

However, the security officials have not yet commented about the attack.
