Kabul Municipality Begins 10-Year City Expansion Plan

The Kabul Municipality has started its 10-year plan to expand Kabul city - a plan that also includes reforms in financial affairs of the institution, planning, city services, roads construction, building infrastructure among others, acting Kabul Mayor Abdullah Habibzai said on Thursday.

“It needs at least $3 billion USD investment. We have plans for the funding of the plan as well in order to have a city with financial facilities,” he told TOLOnews.

He said they have collected more than three billion AFs from their revenue so far.

Members of Kabul public councils meanwhile called for serious monitoring of the development plan.

“As you know, Kabul has traffic problems, some roads are closed. There is an urgent need to bring the traffic under control and reopen the roads,” said Abdullah, a member of the council.

“We hope that all plans are standard and we want a change in the city. We saw that Silo Road in Kabul was constructed twice despite the pressure that was on the mayor. But a good quality road was finally build,” said Daud Yaqubi, a member of the council.
