In the village of Zul Qaida, Chek District, of the Maidan Wardak province, out of the 800 residents of the village, only one person can read and write.

Mohammad Dawood Bakhtiar, the one who can read and write, said that when he is traveling, the residents of the village face more challenges.

“People used to come to me to read and write some subjects and I would give them information about it. Now I am busy with my university lessons and these people are very backward in terms of education,” said Mohammad Dawood.

“There is no school in our place and none of the residents of the place have been educated. There is only one person in our place named Dawood who is now going to university, and we need education,” said Mohammad Wali, a local resident.

Residents of the village said that several generations of them have been deprived of education and remained illiterate due to the lack of schools.

“We are two hours away from the high school, and when these children travel such a long distance, they will not be able to study. The problem is that we are far from the center, and no one pays attention to us,” said Saif Rahman, a local resident.

“Our request is that here, the school should be organized because we remain uneducated, I am not educated, my father was not educated either here, the school should be organized, and the lessons should be started in a standardized way,” said Amin Gul, a local resident.

The governor of Maidan Wardak said that to provide educational opportunities for underprivileged children of the region, a committee has started its activities about it. 

“We are trying to build local classes for them so that their problems will be solved. Right now, our head of education is traveling to remote areas and in those places where there is no school to arrange a school for them,” said Bakhtiar Maaz, governor of Maidan Wardak.
