Heart Disease Center, Maternal Health Facility Launched in Nangarhar

The foundation stone for a heart disease healthcare center, funded by a private company at a cost of $500,000, was laid in Nangarhar.

Officials from the company said that with the commencement of operations at this medical center, heart diseases in the country will be treated.

In addition, they have constructed a maternal and child healthcare center in the village of Sultanpur in Surkh-Rōd district of Nangarhar, which has 12 beds.

Mohammad Ibrahim Roostar, the head of the private company, said about the medical center: "In this building, which has now been inaugurated, we have spent $68,000, which includes construction materials, roofing, painting, tiling, and other materials, and alongside this, we have laid the foundation for a heart disease treatment center that will treat patients not only from Surkh-Rōd district but from all over Afghanistan, and it will cost over $500,000 including accessories, machinery, and laboratories."

The Nangarhar Public Health department called on the private sector and traders in the country to invest more in health services.

Aminullah Sharif, the head of Nangarhar Public Health department, also said that many healthcare centers in Surkh-Rōd district need capacity building, and their budget has been approved.

"Before, there was a center here that is now being used for the children's section in Nangarhar province. Most hospitals need attention to meet standards, and we have proposed this to the ministry, and work on them will begin with the provision of budget. We call on all traders to come forward and perform such fundamental work," the head of Nangarhar Public Health department told TOLOnews.

Local residents said that officials have committed to constructing a standard three-floor medical center for them.

"This clinic has been converted into a 50-bed hospital, but this is still not enough; we demand the construction of standard buildings here," said Sayed Mohammad Agha, an ethnic elder.

"People here are poor and mostly work in their own small trades, and previously, the medicines provided at this center were not even sufficient for a week," said Akbar Khan, another ethnic elder.

This is while most healthcare centers in remote parts of the country do not have standard buildings and sufficient health facilities, and citizens have always demanded attention to these challenges.
