Siege On MP's House In Kabul Ends After 13 Hours

Security officials confirmed that the siege on Helmand MP Mir Wali’s house in Khoshal Khan, PD5, in Kabul, ended early Thursday morning after a 13 hour standoff.

Attackers stormed the house shortly before 7pm Wednesday night. In the ensuing gunfight and at least one explosion five people, including two children, were killed.

Crisis Response Unit members and Special Forces immediately deployed to the scene. Sporadic gunfire was heard through most of the night in the area, with some residents reporting at least two explosions.

Mir Wali was reportedly at home when the attackers stormed the house but managed to escape through a neighboring house.

However, it is believed that at least two of his grandchildren were killed along with the son of Kandahar MP Obaidullah Barikzai and two security force members.

An unknown number of people were also wounded in the attack including Wais Samimi, former Uruzgan police chief.
