A Taliban commander and four other insurgents were killed in an operation in Nerkh district of Wardak province on Wednesday afternoon, local officials said on Thursday.
In addition, three other insurgents were wounded.
The operation took place in Markhana village of Nerkh after Taliban insurgents tried to attack security check posts, a spokesman for the provincial police chief, Najib Amin said.
However, he did not provide further details.
The Taliban have not yet commented.
