Afghan Artist Encourages Tolerance in His Artworks

An artist has prepared some paintings of people from different races but with same colors on their face and hairs to ignore discrimination and encourage tolerance in societies.

Habib Olumi was 12 years old when he achieved an award in Italy for his artworks. That opened the way for him to study further in this art abroad – in the United States. His paintings are now popular in different halls in Kabul. He makes sculptures as well.

Olumi says humans are equal and discrimination in any type is wrong whether it is in Afghanistan or other countries.

“Most of the time when people buy my paintings, they love it and they say that they can imagine their best friend in one of those faces in my paintings,” he said.

He is also good in making paintings on walls of Afghanistan’s beauties.

“We changed the shape of the wall by using cement on it and then we used wood to paint a part of the Buddhas of Bamiyan (on a wall in a restaurant in Kabul),” added Olumi said. “My seven or eight paintings are located in Bukhara Restaurant and six or seven others are in other places.”

“People take selfies with these paintings and sculptures on the wall,” said Mohammad Zahir, a waiter at Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul
