University Students Apply New Storage Method to Agricultural Sector

Students at Kabul University said that they have built storage facilities, similar to cold storage, which can keep agricultural products for more than a month without electricity.

These students said that reservoirs store the collected products by using water in agricultural fields.

“Cold storage has been built in many provinces, but we cannot call it cold storage. They have only one fan and convert the air inside the room. the main cold storage lowers the temperature and does not require energy and electricity and can keep vegetables and fruits fresh,” said Sayed Elham, a student.

“It is an initiative of our professors and students that we have applied here. It is a storage facility used for farmers and small farmers who can store their agricultural products for more than a month before transporting them to the market here,” said Ahmad Masoud Azizi, a student.

“Farmers in different parts of the country have complained about the lack of cold storage and said that due to the lack of storage for products, they are forced to sell it at a low price in the market,” said Bismillah, a farmer.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said that the ministry cooperates in all sectors, especially in supporting the innovation of students in the agricultural sector and providing a work environment for graduates in the field of agriculture.

“We provide job opportunities for students studying in agriculture. And that they have the innovation to promote and introduce it to the people,” said  Musbahuddin Mustaeen, a spokesman for the ministry.

According to the ministry statistics, the construction of large cold storage facilities for farmers is underway in various provinces, especially in 14 provinces of the country, and they will be completed soon.
