The Chamber of Commerce and Investment has emphasized the importance of opening the Wakhan Corridor, at a press conference.

Mohammad Yonis Mohmand, deputy of the Chamber, said that increasing trade, especially the export of goods to China, will be facilitated by the Wakhan Corridor.

The Wakhan Corridor is 350 km long and 8 to 40 km wide and is located in the northeast of Afghanistan, this corridor is connected to China from the east, Tajikistan from the north, and Pakistan from the south.

“We want to have a direct relationship with China so that both regional trade and Afghanistan trade and good economic progress will happen,” said Mohammad Yonis Mohmand.

“One of the very good and alternative ways to the country, with which we have the most exports and the most imports, is the Wakhan way, a very good and alternative way,” said Sherin Agha Sakhi, financial head of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment.

Some businessmen said that they have come to invest in the construction of the Wakhan Corridor.

"It is a very big step for the development of Afghanistan because it has trade and transit advantages in the export and import sector. This can be a good alternative to our dependence on neighboring countries,” said Omid Haidari, a trader.

“This union of precious and semi-precious stones] supports this project with all its power,” said Ataye, head of the union.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said that in the last eight months, nearly one billion dollars of trade has been done with China, most of which is done through Pakistan, and the activation of the Wakhan Corridor will increase the number of exports to China.

"Afghanistan's trade with China in the first 8 months of 1402 is about $940 million, of which $28 million is exports and $876 million are imports. Most of the export items are precious and semi-precious stones and medicinal plants,” said Akhundzada Abdil Salam Jawad, spokesman of the ministry.

Earlier, the Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce said that the Islamic Emirate is ready to open the Wakhan Corridor and asked China to speed up the process.
