Khaf-Herat Railway Project Signed With Russian Company

The contract for the implementation of the final part of the fourth section of the Khaf-Herat railway was signed with a Russian company.

The country's Railway Authority said that the second phase of the fourth section of the Khaf-Herat railway is 47 kilometers long and will be completed within the next two years at a cost of $53 million.

The Head of the Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA), Bakht Rahman Sharafat, said that the second phase of the fourth section of the Khaf-Herat railway project is the final stage of this project, which will reach Herat International Airport. With the completion of this phase, Afghanistan will be connected to Europe via railway.

Sharafat said: "This is important because its route is close and it connects Central Asia including Russia to Afghanistan, and secondly, this project has the support of Russia."

The governor of Herat also emphasized the economic importance of this province at the national and regional levels and neighboring countries, stating that the Khaf-Herat railway will play a significant role in connecting Afghanistan with countries like Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and European countries.

Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the governor of Herat, said: "I assure the Gama Group company that this railway line is sacred to the people of Herat and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, connecting cultures, nations, and the world together."

Meanwhile, the head of the contracting company said that the practical work of the second phase of the fourth section of the Khaf-Herat railway will be completed by Russian, Turkish, and Afghan partners within the next two years.

Zia Rahman Farahi, the head of the Gama company, said: "It will be completed in two years, and our partners are the state-owned companies of Russia and Turkey."

According to the Afghanistan Railway Authority, with the completion of the Herat-Khaf railway, the possibility of extending the railway network in the provinces of Farah, Nimroz, Helmand, and Kandahar will also be provided.
