FARAKHBAR: AGO Arrests Senior Officials On Charges Of Corruption

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) on Wednesday said it has arrested five government officials – including an official from its own office – on corruption charges.

AGO spokesman Jamshid Rasuli said the officials include three government officials on land grabbing charges, an attorney from the AGO on charges of taking bribes and a police force member in Uruzgan on charges of transferring more than $250,000 USD, three million Afghanis and jewelry.

"This time we arrested one of our attorneys on bribery charges who had a major general rank. He is under investigation by the special court," he said.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi said nearly 16 embezzlement and corruption cases have been sent to the anti-corruption judicial center by the Presidential Palace and 15 cases by other departments, from which eight cases are under investigation and some of them have been sent to the AGO for assessment.
