The Association of Obstetric Gynecology held a symposium with the participation of female medical doctors on gynecology and obstetrics in the interest of reducing the mortality rate of mothers and babies during childbirth.
This association expressed concerned about the increase in deaths of mothers and babies in the country.
“In most regions of the country we don’t have specialized doctors in gynecology and obstetrics,” said Najiba Sama Shafajo, head of the Association of Obstetric Gynecology.
Meanwhile, female doctors said that the lack of doctors in gynecology and obstetrics is the main reason for the mortality of mothers and babies during childbirth.
‘Unfortunately, the deaths of mothers and babies during childbirth has increased across the country,” said Malika Paigham, a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics.
“The mortality rate of mothers is 17-23%, which is very high,” said Nilab Sultani, a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics.
Officials of the Hospital in Herat said that each day they have 150 patients, and they don’t have the facilities and enough doctors for all patients.
“If we want to provide standard services to patients similar to other facilities, personnel are also necessary,” said Najiba Azr, head of the hospital in Herat.
