Afghan, Pakistani Health Officials Hold Dialogue on Infectious Diseases

Qalandar Ebad, Acting Minister of Public Health, during his visit to Pakistan, met with Pakistan’s health minister and some Afghan doctors who are getting trained in Pakistan.

Sharafat Zaman Amarkhel, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, said that during the trip there was an exchange of views and requests on building cooperation in the fight against infectious diseases, especially polio, and the creation of conditions for the taking of Pakistani specialized exams inside Afghanistan.

The spokesman said: "Demands have been made to include in the specialization program of the FCPS program in Afghanistan and to take the MCPS and FCPS exams in Afghanistan in order to make it easier for Afghan doctors to continue their specialized training in Pakistan."

A number of doctors said that during these trips, there should be an understanding in order to provide more educational opportunities for Afghan doctors abroad and their access to the latest medical technology.

"New or contemporary technologies that are common in other countries should be transferred to Afghanistan and they should ask for help in technical matters so that Afghanistan can become self-sufficient in the health sector," said Baz Mohammad Shirzad, a doctor.

"It is better for the acting Minister of Public Health to organize a system by using the available staff and the existing facilities inside the country to provide equal health services to all the people of Afghanistan," said Saeed Abdullah Ahmadi, another doctor.

According to the ministry of Public Health, the purpose of Ebad’s trip to Pakistan on January 8, was to participate in the “Global Health Security Summit 2024” in order to prevent, identify and quickly respond to infectious diseases.
