First Polio Vaccination of 2024 Begun in 21 Provinces

The Ministry of Public Health said in a statement that in coordination with international partners, today (Monday) it launched the first Sub-National Immunization Days (SNIDs) campaign for polio eradication in 2024.

“The campaign aims to vaccinate more than 7.5 million children in different regions of the country. The campaign will take place from 29 January to 1 February 2024,” the statement said.

TOLOnews interviewed Alam, who has been working in polio vaccination for the past five years.

Alam Gul said that he goes home-to-home to cover all children qualified for polio vaccination.

“We come for vaccination and knock on the doors and ask the families to bring their children to vaccinate them,” he said.

“The government should increase the use of more banners for advertisement to promote public awareness in villages and cities,” said Mujtaba Sofi, a doctor.

Afghanistan last year recorded 6 positive cases of polio. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries, where polio remains a high threat.
