TOLOnews Remembers Pioneering Afghan Journalist Mujahid Kakar

Today (15 Saur), TOLOnews remembers veteran Afghan journalist Mujahid Kakar, on the second anniversary of his death from illness in Germany.  

Kakar was the former head of TOLOnews and was widely respected in the media community for his pioneering work. 

Kakar worked for more than a decade as a news and political anchor with TOLO, LEMAR and TOLOnews.  

Kakar was a prominent Afghan journalist.

“When Mujahid Kakar was head of TOLOnews, he acted positively to promote freedom of speech—which set a good example for years in the country. He never came under the pressure of any tribe or group,  not politically or financially. He continued to independently work without taking any side and focused on the improvement of media,” said Parwiz Shamal, former head of news gathering at TOLOnews.  

“He was a good anchor for political programs. Many have learned from him—on how to manage the political programs. His death was a great tragedy for the Afghan nation,” said Hujatullah Mujadidi, head of the Afghanistan Independent Journalists' Association.  

Kakar joined MOBY Group in 2005 and worked in several position with TOLO, LEMAR and TOLOnews.  

With the establishment of TOLOnews in 2009, Kakar become head of the organization.  

“Mujahid Kakar started working as a journalist with MOBY Group and then become head of the news department. He not only provided services to the MOBY Group but also to all journalists,” said Naveed Ihsan, a TOLOnews cameraman.  

“Mujahid Kakar played an important role in the enhancement of the media. He chose a particular way of journalism. He played an important role in the formation of news policies for TOLOnews,” said Zirak Fahim, current head of news gathering at TOLOnews.  

Kakar was respected by the Afghan media community and was awarded several prizes.
