Residents of Demolished Houses in Kabul Demand Compensation From City

Several owners of demolished houses in the Sar-e-Kotal area of Khairkhana in PD17 of Kabul have complained about not being compensated for their houses yet.

They said that their houses have been destroyed but no construction on the road has begun.

“It has been one month since they demolished our houses and yet now nobody has come to pay compensation to us, everything is unclear, they didn’t even start the road yet,” said Abdulrahman, a resident.

“We called on the municipality to compensate us for demolishing our houses; people face a hard winter, they have lots of challenges,” said Omar, a resident.

Meanwhile, the Kabul municipality said that in the near future work on the road will start and those whose homes were destroyed will receive money based on the percentage of their homes that were destroyed.

“The work on this project is in the evaluation stage and those whose homes are destroyed will receive compensation from the municipality…. they have to make ready the documents that the municipality asks for, they will receive money as soon as possible,” said Nematullah Barakzai, a representative of the Kabul Municipality.

The Kabul Municipality said there are houses in PD17 that were built without legal ownership and were demolished, not only in this area but in other areas of Kabul as well.
