Tehran Expects Kabul to Keep Pledges Regarding Border Issues: Iran Minister

The Iranian Minister of Interior, Ahmad Wahidi, said that Tehran expects the Islamic Emirate to remain committed to its pledges regarding border issues.

Wahidi said that the tensions on the border with Afghanistan are now solved.

Since the Islamic Emirate came to power there have been many border clashes between Iran and Afghanistan—with the two sides blaming each other for the cause of the tensions.

“Yes, we don’t have problems now. But as it has been repeated, I hope the officials in Afghanistan pay attention to it so that these border incidents, which we dislike, don't happen again,” Wahidi said as quoted by an Iranian media ILNA.

The Islamic Emirate spokesman  Zabiullah Mujahid said that they are committed to the laws and rules at the borders.

“Sometimes these small issues happen and all of the officials pay attention to it in order to control it. We call on the Iranian side to not allow problems to be created, our forces on the border are professional,” he said.

Political analysts said that the countries should observe international norms regarding borders and appoint professional people on the borders.

“Both countries have responsibilities and obligations to observe the bilateral manners and international laws of borders between the countries,” said Aziz Maarij, a former diplomat.

“I hope professional people will be settled in the border between Afghanistan and Iran, so that the clashes don’t happen again, so the relations will not be damaged,” said Sarwar Niazai, a military analyst.

In late May 2023, the Islamic Emirate confirmed the killing of one of its forces in clashes that happened on the border between Iran and Afghanistan.
