Muttaqi Meets Top UN Envoy in Afghanistan

UNAMA News in a statement said that UN Special Representative for Afghanistan Roza Otunbayeva met with acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and discussed the needs of Afghan returnees, the Special Coordinator’s report, and the need to ensure women’s and girls’ rights, including their full access to education and work.

Meanwhile, according to a statement of the Foreign Ministry, in the meeting, the acting minister said the international community should appreciate the recent developments in security, economy, governance and counter narcotics efforts and added that the UN and world community should concentrate on resolving the issues of economic sanctions and freezing assets.

“Afghanistan has a legitimate address for any kind of interstate issues, hence the world countries and organizations should engage with Afghanistan through their official addresses,” said Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesman for the Foreign Ministry.

The political analysts suggested the Islamic Emirate and international community should consider each other’s demands and take steps for the improvement of engagement.

“The only way is to shorten this distance. The world should pay attention to Afghanistan and start their assistance including the political, economic and social to Afghanistan,” said Aziz Maarij, political analyst.

“There is a hope that Afghanistan and the international community will find a solution for the national and international problem of Afghanistan,” said Janat Fahim Chakari, political analyst.

However, the UNAMA’s statement said: “The SRSG also informed about UN efforts to assist the returnees as well as promote counter-narcotics and microfinance efforts.”
