Over 110 Projects Launched in Current Solar Year: Public Works Ministry

The Ministry of Public Works said that it has started work on more than 110 development and maintenance projects in the current solar year that are supposed to be put into operation by the end of the year.

Ashraf Haqshenas, the spokesman of this ministry, added that so far more than 90 maintenance projects worth 2 billion Afghanis have been completed in the country.

Haqshenas said: "In the current year, the Ministry of Public Works had a plan of 110 development and maintenance projects, and has started the work of about 1,000 kilometers of roads, 30 bridge piers, and more than 1,500 check bridge piers in different parts of Afghanistan."

The construction of the Kabul-Kandahar highway, the Afghan ring road and the reconstruction of the Salang highway are among the activities of this ministry.

A number of economic analysts emphasized that in order to grow the economy and find jobs for the country's citizens, the grounds must be provided for the resumption of activities of global institutions.

"In Afghanistan, after two years of a bad political interaction, we are unfortunately experiencing the decrease of foreign investment in Afghanistan, and only the factor of domestic investment is used," said Mohammad Nabi, an economic analyst.

"International institutions such as ADP, USAID have stopped the infrastructure projects they had in Afghanistan," said Sayed Massoud, an economic analyst.

The Ministry of Economy assured that in order to provide opportunities for the citizens of the country, the ministry is trying to attract more investments.

Latif Nazari, the Deputy Minister of Economy, said: "Infrastructural plans such as railways, construction of highways, energy development and transparent extraction of mines and attention to job-creating programs are focused."

Nearly a week ago, the Economic Commission of the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that 24 different projects worth about 10 billion Afghanis have been approved by the National Procurement Commission.
