Reported Ban on Girls Above 6th Grade in Educational Centers Causes Alarm

Some officials of educational institutions in the capital are concerned about new restrictions imposed on female students above 6th grade in educational institutes.

These officials claim that the Ministry of Education has secured a commitment from them stipulating that girls above sixth grade should not be taught in their schools.

Mozhda Walizada, an official from one of the educational institutions, told TOLOnews: “They have said that not even one female student should be present in the classes; because of this, the concern of all students has increased significantly, and so has ours. When the students come, we have to turn them away, which is a major problem and regrettable for us.”

“A commitment letter has been taken from us beforehand, from all centers, and our concern is great because a number of teachers have left their jobs, including those who were female teachers,” said Rahmani, responsible for one of the educational institutions.

Female students above 6th grade expressed disappointment, saying that the Islamic Emirate should not deprive them of the right to education.

They once again urged the Islamic Emirate to reopen the doors of educational and academic opportunities for them.

Gulsum, a tenth-grade student, expressed her desire: “When you are at home, nothing comes to your mind other than thoughts and worries. Education can greatly advance a person and can enlighten the human mind.”

Hassina, a seventh-grade student, said: “It has been two and a half years since we have been deprived of education. Our only wish was that if we could not go to school, we would attend courses.”

However, the Islamic Emirate has so far not commented on the imposition of new restrictions in educational institutions for girls above sixth grade.
