Afghan Forces’ Campaign Against Insurgents Is Legitimate: CEO

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday said that restoring peace in the country forms the key objective of the Afghan government and that the Afghan security forces are legitimate in their defense against insurgents.

Speaking at the 11th graduation ceremony of cadets at Marshal Fahim National Defense University in Kabul on Tuesday, the CEO said that efforts are made by the Afghan forces to propel the country closer to peace but that it is important for them to stay away from ethnic issues.

“Your resistance against the terrorists is a legitimate defense, today the entire world stays alongside the people of Afghanistan in this defense,” said Abdullah.

Meanwhile Afghanistan’s Army Chief of Staff Gen. Sharif Yaftali said the Afghan National Army (ANA) is fully prepared to secure the country’s parliamentary and district councils elections.

“The peace strategy and providing security to parliamentary elections are among the major objectives that the national army will pursue this year,” said Yaftali.

“You should never recognize each other on the basis of language, politics and ethnicity,” added Abdullah.

Newly graduated cadets vowed to do whatever they could to defend their country.

“We have gathered from each corner of Afghanistan for the sake of defending our beloved Afghanistan and our national pride,” said one officer Hassan Ali.
