Haroon Chakhansuri on Thursday officially took charge as the new political deputy and the acting foreign minister.
Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish introduced him as the new acting foreign minister.
“Sometimes we have not managed to defend our country’s national interests and the rights of our citizens in our embassies...,” Danish said at the introduction ceremony of Chakhansuri.
“Preliminary steps have been taken for reforms in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs--now it is time that I implement this reform package that reflects the vision of the president and the 21st century in the right way and with broader cooperation,” said Chakhansuri.
But the appointment has sparked strong reactions.
Experts say that those people should be assigned the task of minister of foreign affairs who have enough experience in policy-making and diplomacy.
