Former NDS Chief Urges Govt Leaders To Step Down

Rahmatullah Nabil, former head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), in a letter, obtained by TOLOnews, has asked President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah to step down.

“The two gentlemen are asked to have mercy on the suffering nation and officially apologize to the people of Afghanistan and resign from their posts,” Nabil said in the letter.

The letter, sent to the leaders of the national unity government on Tuesday, said the heads of state have given an ethnic nature to national processes, as well as security and defense organizations, and that their reluctance in war management has resulted in an 11 percent fall in the number of Afghan Defense and Security Force members.

Nabil asked the government leaders to provide grounds for a peaceful transfer of power to an elected president through early elections.

“The increase in terrorist attacks in big cities in the country, including the capital, Kabul, has affected all security belts from red to green, and even the ARG (the Presidential Palace) and Sapidar Palace (Chief Executive Abdullah’s office) are not safe (from these attacks). It should be acknowledged that no one is responsible for these devastating challenges and the crisis, except you gentlemen,” the letter said.

In another part of the letter, Nabil criticizes war management by government leaders.

“Do you know what an 11 percent fall in the number of our security and defense forces in a year has meant, and what message did it deliver to the ‘so-called’ Commander in Chief? No doubt, the clear message is that all your plans and policies on security and defense are inefficient and have failed,” Nabil said.

Nabil has pointed to the increase in poverty among the people, saying that government leaders’ inefficiency has resulted in 54 percent of people living below the poverty line.

Finally, the letter has highlighted the advantage of the government leaders' resignation, saying it will help remove discrimination and improve tolerance among the people.
