Tombstones dating back nearly two hundred years have been stolen off of Nader Khan Hill in Kabul, residents told TOLOnews.

The residents said that many of the gravesites are on the verge of ruin. 
 
Nader Khan Hill is one of the oldest parts of Kabul. The tombs of a number of prominent Afghan figures, including Zahir Shah and Nader Shah, are located there. But the area used for fun and shelter by addicts and other homeless people.
 
The tomb of Ghazi Sardar Sultan Mohammad Talaei, the governor of Peshawar during the reign of Amir Dost Mohammad (one of the prominent rulers of Afghanistan during the First Anglo-Afghan War), has been dug up several times and his coffin has been plundered. 
 
“The majority of graves belonging to our families--their tombstones have been looted,” said Sultan Mohammad Talaei, a resident of the area.
 
“This area (Nader Khan Hill) is an important part of our country and part of our honor, so the government should pay attention to this area,” said Mohammad Samim Omari, a local resident.
 
The Ministry of Information and Culture says it is trying to protect the historic Nader Khan Hill.
 
“The Interior Ministry has also been notified. The Ministry of Culture is planning to build a project there in the near future, and plans are underway for next year to carry out major repairs for the graves on the hill,” said Mohammad Saber Mohmand, a spokesman for the Ministry of Information and Culture.
 
According to the Ministry of Information and Culture, there are about 5,000 historical remnants in the country, of which 70% have been preserved.
