COVID-19: 1,379 New Cases, 50 Deaths Reported in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday reported 1,379 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 4,544 samples tested in the last 24 hours.  

The ministry also reported 50 deaths and 357 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period.  

This death toll is the highest in a 24-hour period reported by the health ministry.

The new cases were reported in Kabul (396), Kandahar (139), Herat (68), Balkh (98), Takhar (47), Kunduz (85), Faryab (50), Helmand (29), Maidan Wardak (73), Badakhshan (113), Kapisa (75), Bamiyan (16),  Kunar (10), Panjshir (88), Daikundi (25), Ghor (24), Farah (18) and Paktika (25) provinces.

Deaths were reported in Kabul (18), Herat (2), Balkh (9), Kandahar (3), Kunduz (2), Baghlan (1), Faryab (1), Helmand (1), Paktia (1), Maidan Wardak (3), Nimruz (1), Kapisa (1), Logar (2), Farah (2), Jawzjan (1) and Samangan (2) provinces.  

The ministry reported that the cumulative total of known COVID-19 cases is 80,615, the total number of reported deaths is 3,195, and the total number of recoveries is 58,622.  

So far, 495,749 samples have been tested in government centers and there are 18,718 known active COVID-19 cases in the country, data by the ministry indicates.  

According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 3,722,282 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 173,008,891.
