Afghanistan: COVID-19 Cases Exceed 34,000

The total known cases of COVID-19 in Afghanistan on Friday reached 34,194, with 286 out of 742 samples testing positive in the past 24 hours.

This comes as the lockdown has been lifted in the country, except for schools and universities, which remain closed.

According to the data by the ministry, 14 deaths from COVID-19 were reported as were 41 recoveries.
 
The data shows that the total known number of COVID-19 deaths in the country is 971, and the total number of known recoveries is 20,882. The number of known active cases stands at 12,341.

The positive cases reported in the last 24 hours came from Kabul (83), Herat (81), Bamiyan (30), Badghis (30), Daikundi (16), Kapisa (13), Balkh (9), Kunduz (5), Baghlan (3), Maidan Wardak (3), Panjshir (3), Parwan (3), Logar (3),  Laghman (1), and Nangarhar (1).  

The deaths were reported from Kabul (10), Herat (2), Takhar (1), and Maidan Wardak (1).
The recoveries were reported in Balkh (11), Takhar (18) and Kunduz (12).

Data by the Public Health Ministry shows that so far 78,959 samples have been tested in the country’s laboratories.
