Afghan welterweight MMA fighter Siyar Bahadurzada picked up a Performance of the Night bonus for his wicked body shot finish of Luan Chagas in their UFC Atlantic City fight in the US on Saturday.
It was the second time Bahadurzada was rewarded for a dramatic knockout after winning a Knockout of the Night back in April 2012 when he debuted with an upset victory against Paulo Thiago.
Bahadurzada earned his big win early Sunday (Kabul time) with an impressive body-shot KO over Chagas, a Brazilian mixed martial artist and lived up to his nickname “Siyar The Great”.
MMA Mania reported Bahadurzada opened up with a quick leg kick. Chagas returned with a flying knee attempt but Bahadurzada came back with a huge right hand and then forced a takedown by catching Chagas’ counter kick.
Bahadurzada landed hard ground-and-pound on the Brazilian before Chagas reversed and quickly took his back.
Chagas then peppered Siyar with short punches before going for the rear-naked choke finish.
However, Bahadurzada fought the hands well until the bell sounded at the end of the first round.
In Round 2, Chagas aggressively plodded forward, but Bahadurzada was there to counter with looping right hands.
The Afghan MMA star caught Chagas with a straight left hand before landing a hard knee and combination along the cage.
Out of nowhere, Bahadurzada blasted the Brazilian with a nasty front kick that forced Chagas to slump over.
Bahadurzada then landed a flush uppercut on Chagas on the way down to the canvas that put the Brazilian out for the second-round knockout finish.
This was Bahadurzada’s third straight win since returning from a 26-month layoff in March 2016, with all of those wins coming by way of knockout or submission. Post-fight he called for a bout with a top-10 opponent, according to a Cageside Press report.
After a two-year hiatus, Bahadurzada has come back a new man, stopping US’s Brandon Thatch and Australia’s Rob Wilkinson in his last two fights.
