Date Set for Afghanistan in World Cup Qualifiers

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the date and time for Afghanistan National Football matches in the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) said on Tuesday.

Bangladesh will host Afghanistan on March 25 and the match will kick off at 5:30pm Kabul time.

In another match, Afghanistan will host Oman on March 30. The time and the location of this match has not yet been announced, according to AFF.

“Due to the coronavirus issue, the AFF, in coordination with the AFC and FIFA, will soon announce the time and stadium for the Oman match,” AFF said.

Afghanistan is not able to host a match at home due to security reason and hosted its previous matches in Tajikistan’s Dushanbe.

Afghanistan’s football team has held a six-day training camp in Dubai from December 25 to 30 to prepare for the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifier matches.

10 new players were added as some others missed training due to the coronavirus and lockdowns in the countries where they are living.

Anoush Dastgir, coach of Afghanistan's national football team, has invited ten new players from the Afghan Premier League (APL) who distinguished themselves in the 9th season, which was held in 2020.

“These players can shine during this training camp and have the opportunity to wear the national team jersey in the future,” Dastgir had said.
