Hereford Football Club signed Afghan international Maziar Kouhyar ahead of their Football Association Challenge Trophy (FA Trophy) tie with Woking on Saturday, according to a local news report.
FA Trophy is a men’s football knockout cup competition, run by--and named after--the English Football Association and competed for primarily by semi-professional teams.
The 23-year-old midfielder started as a Coventry City youth player, according to a report by the Hereford Times. He then made 21 appearances between 2016 and 2019 for Walsall in League One.
However, he has been away from the game for 18 months with an ACL injury.
Kouhyar is an Afghanistan international and has made six appearances, the report says.
According to the report, he was the first footballer born in Afghanistan to play professionally in the UK.
Kouhyar makes the bench on his debut against Woking, the report says.
