Afghanistan U19 Through To Semifinals After Beating New Zealand

Afghanistan U19 has beaten New Zealand by a resounding 202 runs in their quarterfinal match in the 2018 U19 ICC Cricket World Cup.

The win has now secured Afghanistan a place in the semifinals against Australia on Monday.

New Zealand, who had been on a winning streak after advancing to the semifinals unbeaten in their group matches was left disappointed on their own ground.

Afghanistan dominated New Zealand with both bat and ball to give a good account of themselves and thoroughly outplayed their opponents, cricbuzz reported.

Four players made between 60 and 70 for Afghanistan, with the performance of Azmatullah Omarzai boosting them to an excellent total.

Omarzai smoked seven sixes as he blasted 66 from 24 balls, with Afghanistan hitting a remarkable 83 from their last six overs.

Facing a tough task, New Zealand couldn't respond, with 16-year-old Mujeeb Zadran proving to be the chief destroyer.

From the point Afghanistan won the toss to the time Max Chu was trapped legbefore by Mujeeb Zadran, it was Afghanistan's domination all the way.

Qais Ahmad and Mujeeb Zadran bagged four wickets apiece after four Afghanistan batsmen slammed half centuries, reported cricbuzz.

Critics say Afghanistan is proving to be the side to watch out for.

Their performance in the tournament so far, barring the loss against Ireland in which they rested three of their top players, is also a proof that the recent Asian title wasn't a rare occurrence.

They are a team to watch out for in this world cup and for the future, reported cricbuzz.
