Big Corruption Cases Connected To Int'l Mafia: Abdullah

The Chief Executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah has said that corruption cases have a connection with international mafia and that he is aware of some compromises being made by certain people in the country.

"I am aware of the corruption cases that have been connected with international mafia. I know what relatives of (some) elders of this country have done and what deals they are involved in," Abdullah said at a gathering on Sunday.

Late last week, President Ashraf Ghani said: "Whenever I have decided to take a step against corruption, I have heard a voice from a level that have taken tens and hundreds of millions that 'hey president, don't monopolize the power in your hands'."

Meanwhile, Ahmad Wali Massoud, head of Ahmad Shah Massoud Foundation, commented on the issue and said: "Which kind of corrupt figures? Someone is appointed as ambassador while another is pardoned. Isn't fraud a kind of corruption? It is a national treason, it is a big treason."

He added: "When president [Ghani] says that he is fighting corruption, it is completely wrong. It is a lie and it is dishonest."

Meanwhile, head of the High Office of Oversight and Anti-Corruption Hussain Fakhri said fighting corruption should not be selective.

"Fighting corruption cannot be done in a selective way. It cannot be done the way that you chase one while ignore another," Fakhri added.
