Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the head of Hizb-e-Islami on Thursday said that his party has shared its plan for peace with influential political factions in Afghanistan.

The withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan and the establishment of an interim setup are part of the plan.

Hekmatyar said that a number of members of the High Council of National Reconciliation, political movements and political parties are also working separately on their plans for discussions in the upcoming UN-led conference on Afghanistan in Turkey.

Hekmatyar suggested that a single peace plan should be created from the various plans suggested by differing parties.

“Members of the High Council of National Reconciliation are thinking about different ways, because the peace council itself has not outlined any plan, this means that the government is also not capable of bringing a comprehensive and acceptable peace plan,” said Hekmatyar.

Hekmatyar also called on the US to honor its commitment for troop withdrawal based on the US-Taliban peace deal.

Hekmatyar said that the possibility for the presence of Taliban’s supreme leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzda in the Turkey conference looks hard, however he said that President Ashraf Ghani should lead a delegation in the conference.

“If the first deputy of the Islamic emirate (term used for Taliban’s political system) or the political deputy of the Taliban participates in the Turkey conference, that will be enough,” said Hekmatyar.

Hekmatyar said that his supporters will stage demonstrations in Kabul on Friday and their demand will be the resignation of members of the government.

"Amid the current situation, the increase of pressure on the government is not a good thing. Mr. Hekmatyar as a political leader should instead work for peace and reconciliation,” said Abdul Rashid Ayoubi, an adviser to President Ghani.
