Women in Kabul Rally Seek Reopening of Girls' Schools

A group of women in a rally in Kabul protested the closure of schools and universities for female students, saying it is a violation of their fundamental rights in Afghan society.

The women continued their protest despite they were stopped by the Islamic Emirate forces.

Earlier, the deputy minister of information and culture, Zabiullah Mujahid said that protestors should get permission from the Ministry of Justice.

Teachers and lecturers from Kabul schools and universities said the closure of secondary schools and universities is a grave concern that can affect the future of girls' education in the country and that it needs serious attention by the Islamic emirate authorities.

Female students said that education is their Islamic and legal right and that no one should take this right from them.

After the Islamic Emirate came into power, secondary schools and universities remained closed for female students.
