Niklasson Discusses Afghanistan With Indian Officials

The EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson, said that he discussed human rights, India's ties with Afghanistan, and ensuring peace in Afghanistan with Indian officials during his time in India.

On his Twitter page, Niklasson wrote that the Indian officials expressed their concern about militant groups in Afghanistan.

“We agreed that minimal presence in Kabul is useful to have a better understanding of the situation and to support Afghans in need. We also discussed the human rights situation and that inclusivity is also needed for long-term stability and peace,” Niklasson tweeted.

However, the Islamic Emirate rejected India's concerns on this issue, saying that everyone benefits from Afghanistan's peace and security and that no one will be allowed to use Afghan territory against other nations.

"No one should be concerned about the threat from the territory of Afghanistan, because all of the soil of Afghanistan is under the control of the Islamic Emirate, thus there is no one who can use our country's soil against other nations,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.

According to a number of political analysts, nations should work with the Islamic Emirate so that Afghani territory is not used against other nations.

"Both sides should cooperate in security, political, and other spheres to prevent this threat from growing, for India or other nations,” said Mohammad Hassan Haqiar, a political analyst.

"We Afghans urge India not to change its policy towards Afghanistan for its strategic and intelligence purposes in the region and the world, but to come to the realities and truths,” said Ahmad Khan Ander, another political analyst.

The European Union's Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson, has previously discussed the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the support of the EU for relief efforts there with representatives of Pakistan.
