Pakistan FM Stresses Need to Ensure Women’s Rights in Afghanistan

The Pakistan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, said that his country’s position towards Afghanistan is in line with the international community, calling on the interim Afghan government to fulfill its pledges.

In an interview with Al Jazeera English, he urged the international community to engage with Afghanistan but added that “it is incumbent” on the interim Afghan government to live up to its promises.

“As far as Pakistan’s position on Afghanistan, I think, you will find Pakistan’s position is in line with the position of the international community,” the Pakistani minister said. “We also request that the interim government in Afghanistan fulfill their pledges to the international community and to their own people… to do with human rights or women education or their commitment for their soil not be used by terrorist or to conduct terrorist activities in other countries.”

Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate said it has remained committed to its promises regarding Afghanistan, calling on the international community to fulfill its promises towards the interim Afghan government.

“The Islamic Emirate has fulfilled the promises it has made but unfortunately, these countries have not fulfilled their promises which included their pledge to remove the black list and to release the fund of the people of Afghanistan but they have frozen it in their banks and they still make propaganda,” said Islamic Emirate’s Spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid.

“Pakistan has a duel-faced policy towards Afghanistan that wants to undermine Afghanistan so that it can have control over it (Afghanistan).

It is not honest about the issue of human rights, women’s rights and inclusion of people,” said Nematullah Bizhan, an analyst on international relations.

Earlier, the Islamic Emirate said it is planning to relocate the refugees alongside the Durand Line to other provinces in the country, an official said on Sunday.

Mujahid said that the move aims to assure Islamabad that the refugees are not involved in attacks on Pakistani forces.
