Kabul Residents Complain of Slow Progress on Road Repair

Residents of the capital complained about the slowness of the road reconstruction process and said that the damage to the roads and the resulting dust are causing various illnesses.

“It has been four or five months since the digging and construction of the road began, from Chehelston Garden to this place, but no one has asked for it yet,” said Qais, a resident of Chehelston.

“It has been a year since they started work on a part of the road and then it stops for five to six months and then starts again, and the people have faced challenges regarding this road,” said Rahmatullah, a Kabul resident.

At the same time, some residents consider road damage as one of the main challenges in their daily commute.

“The weather is hot, everyone is sick, right now I'm also sick from the dust of the roads,” said Faiz Agha, a resident of Kabul.

“It has been five months since the construction of the road started. There are many problems with dust and road construction. People become sick,” said Ahmad Fawad, a resident of Kabul.

Meanwhile, Kabul Municipality said that the road reconstruction work will be completed soon.

“It is dust that may arise during the construction of the road, and all the projects -- around which there are a lot of houses -- have been directly instructed to sprinkle the area with water, and about the specific project that you asked about, the work on that has begun and will end soon,” said Nematullah Barakzai, a spokesperson of Kabul Municipality.

According to Kabul municipality, out of eighty-five road construction projects, forty projects are currently being worked on.
